Musculoskeletal Medicine Conditions
Back & Neck Pain
Back pain or backache is the pain felt in the back that may originate from muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine. Back pain is one of the most common medical problems experienced by most people at some time in their life.
Sciatic-type Pain
Sciatica is a condition characterized by a group of symptoms caused by pressure or damage to the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is one of the longest nerves in the body, extending from the lower back to the foot, passing through the buttock and the back of the leg.
Arthritis
The term arthritis literally means inflammation of a joint, but is generally used to describe any condition in which there is damage to the cartilage. Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury. The warning signs that inflammation presents are redness, swelling, heat and pain.
Whiplash
Whiplash is a soft tissue injury to the neck, usually caused by sudden forceful jerk commonly occurring as a result of an automobile accident, sports injuries, or an accidental fall. Sometimes whiplash may also be referred to as neck strain, neck sprain or hyperextension injury.
Shoulder Pain
Pain in the shoulder suggests a shoulder injury which is more common in athletes participating in sports such as swimming, tennis, pitching and weightlifting. The injuries are caused due to the over usage or repetitive motion of the arms.
Knee Pain
The knee is one of the largest joints in the body, formed by the lower end of the femur, upper end of the tibia and the patella or knee cap. Several ligaments and muscles attach to the bones of the knee joint to maintain normal motion of the joint.
Hip Pain
Hip pain, one of the common symptoms patients complain of, may not always be felt precisely over the hip joint. Pain may be felt in and around the hip joint and the cause for pain is multifactorial. The exact position of your hip pain suggests the probable cause or underlying condition causing pain.
Sports Injuries
Sports injuries are injuries that most commonly occur during sports and exercises. These injuries may result from accidents, poor training practices, and use of improper protective gear, lack of conditioning, and insufficient warm up and stretching.
Disc Pain
Spinal discs are present between the spinal vertebrae and provide stability, a wide range of motion and shock absorption for the spine. Due to age-related wear and tear and other degenerative conditions, the spinal disc may start to lose strength and pliability, resulting in disc pain. Breakdown of the discs in the lumbar spine region will result in lower back pain, leg pain, numbness and weakness. Breakdown of the discs in the cervical spine region will result in neck, shoulder, and arm pain and stiffness.
Nerve Pain
Nerve pain, also called neuropathic pain, is pain caused from injury or disease of the sensory nervous system. The sensory nervous system is associated with the senses of pressure, pain, touch, movement, vibration, temperature and position. You may experience a variety of symptoms ranging from pain to numbness in various parts of the body depending on the location of the nerve damage.
Tendinopathy
The hamstrings are a group of 3 muscles that run down the back of the thigh. They are attached to bone by tendons at the base of the buttocks and just below the knee.
Bursitis (Hip and Shoulder)
Bursitis is inflammation or irritation of a bursa sac. You have these sacs all over your body. They’re filled with fluid that helps ease rubbing and friction between tissues like bone, muscle, tendons, and skin. Bursitis is common around major joints like your shoulder, elbow, hip, or knee.
